Director of Music

The Headmaster and Governors of St Joseph’s School are seeking to appoint for September 2017 an exceptional full time Director of Music to lead a key department in this thriving independent, co-educational day school. Located in the town of Launceston close to the Cornwall/Devon border, the Senior School currently has approximately 130 pupils between the ages of 11-16 years. Together with the Prep and Pre-Prep the school totals approximately 230 pupils. St Joseph’s is very proud of its tradition of excellent academic results, its friendly, family atmosphere and commitment to providing every child with a Firm Foundation for Life. The Director of Music (Seniors) reports to the Headmaster via the Deputy Head and is responsible for the teaching of music from KS3-4 as well as leading the wide and varied concert programme and choral productions for which the school is renowned. The position represents a rare opportunity for the right candidate to take on a thriving department with a rich tradition of musical excellence, and known for punching above its weight. St Joseph’s School has an excellent reputation for music, and choral singing has always played an important part in the life of the school.  The Senior Chamber Choir has been awarded the RSCM Proficiency Certificate and in addition was re-elected to the prestigious “St. Cecilia Guild” for choral excellence.
